The first Dutch RFID Innovation Price has been awarded to Schuitema NV for its project on packaged fresh-cut vegetables. The winners were named during the ECR Congress 2005 on 8 June. Having worked on this project were Schuitema NV, H. Heemskert BV, Agrotechnology & Food Innovations (a member of NVC), Royal PTT Nederland NV, the Central Trade Bureau for Food Products (CBL) and Cap Gemini Nederland NV. The project revolved round the CBL-crates from Container Centralen (member of NVC) which are equipped with RFID-tags. Information, such as product temperature in the logistics chain, is transmitted via the KPN network to a database accessible by all parties in the chain. Supermarket chain Hoogvliet has been nominated for the second price. Its distribution centre in Alphen a/d Rijn has used RFID for several years with proven success on outgoing roll containers to further reduce the chances for making mistakes in the logistics process. The chief project partner in this case is the Boskoopse enterprice TrolleyTrack. One of the results of the Schuitema project has been to chart the read-reliability or unreliability in the presence of moisture and metal (spinach, orange juice, cans). This project has currently been set aside temporarily. In the case of Hoogvliet, after tackling the outgoing goods flow successfully thanks to the RFID project, it is now focusing more on the incoming flow of packaged products. |
